Profile of Dr. Md. Serazul Islam

Prof. Dr. Md. Serazul Islam is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in Agricultural Engineering, Irrigation, and Water Management. He currently serves as the Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and a Professor (Grade 2) at the School of Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) at Bangladesh Open University (BOU). Additionally, he coordinates the MS in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Livelihood (MSARL) and MS in Irrigation and Water Management programs at BOU.

Dr. Islam earned his Doctor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Nagoya University, Japan, under the MEXT Fellowship Program (2012). He also holds an MS in Irrigation and Water Management (2005) and a BSc in Agricultural Engineering (2001), both from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, and securing top positions in his class.

With an extensive academic career spanning over 19 years, he has held various teaching and administrative positions at BOU, progressing from Lecturer (2005) to Professor (2018). His research focuses on Integrated Water Resource Management, River Conservation Engineering, and Flood Disaster & Risk Management. He has contributed to national and international research projects, including studies on deficit irrigation, mulching techniques, and water productivity in crop production.

Dr. Islam has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in reputed international journals across multiple countries, including the USA, UK, India, Egypt, Romania, and Iran. He has also supervised PhD and several MS students and actively participates in research ethics and academic councils at BOU.

Recognized for his outstanding academic achievements, he has received multiple awards, including the Professor S. M. Nazmul Haque Smrithy Gold Medal (2014) and the Md. Nurul Hossain Gold Medal (2001). He is a member of various professional organizations, such as the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and the Japanese Society of Civil Engineering (JSCE).

Dr. Islam continues to play a vital role in advancing agricultural engineering research and water management strategies in Bangladesh and beyond.
